Probably is the reason, anything that is running that doesn't have to be will drain the battery. It is a good idea to keep bluetooth off, whatever programs you're not using off, and to adjust the backlight strength depending on where you are/what time it is.

My current HTC device is CDMA, but when it's fighting for an EVDO signal I can notice a faster drain

My GPRS connection is driving me nuts!! It's always connecting and I have no idea why, this never used to happen before. I have also noticed that my battery is dying much faster than before, could this be a result of GPRS always trying to connect?

Now, how can I switch this off, I have looked everywhere but all's been in vain.

Thanks.

RE: Additionally, the activesync appears to download only a small amount of the email

On IMAP and POP accounts at least (no idea with active synch) you can change this by going to your inbox, tools, options, tapping your account, clicking next on your email address, user info, account info, then clicking "options" on server info, and hopefully one of the pages (3/3 here) has a "Include 2KB of message body" option ticked - you can increase this a small amount, or on an "unlimited" price plan (like my T-Mobile one) just select the option to download the whole message.
