Random things

Random things I’ve noticed but don’t really want to blog about in a full blog posting otherwise you’d think I’ve got nothing to say:

1. Upgrading the internal memory on an Acer Aspire One is not a pleasant experience. But when you rip the two back rubber feet off, as you have to do, don’t panic about sticking them back on; the computer sits quite happily on its two front feet, and the stubs where the back feet were.

2. It is still not cold enough to wear a big fuzzy scarf.

3. The Guardian’s new full-text RSS feeds are a godsend; particularly when you couple them with Google Gears, allowing you to enjoy catching up with Google feeds on the train. Hurray, Guardian. I’ll be beefing up Media UK’s job RSS feeds further soon to ensure that I can do something nice in return. Possibly.

4. Google Reader ought to sort out duplicate postings, because if a posting from The Guardian appears in two separate feeds, it duplicates it and that’s a bad thing.

5. Come to that, when is Gmail going to bother doing Google Gears integration? I -really- want that. No, really. Wow, that would be cool.

6. My home wifi connection is apparently somewhere in Kent, according to the iPhone’s location system. I don’t know how to tell them that I’ve never even been to where it thinks I live. But it’s moot because I’m changing internet connection on November 7th, and will have a shiny new router to play with.

7. My iPhone is crashing a lot at the moment. Don’t understand why. Anyone else?

8. I’m really enjoying blip.fm right now. I’m here if you wanted a listen. All props gratefully received.

James,

(3) I concur. I think I might switch them on the new look UKFREE.TV – I can’t decide if I should use Google’s ad feeds for them, I don’t like ads in my feeds … what do you think?

(4) (5) agree

(6) (7) I just got a Google G1 and it very good. I recommend you give one a go! Proper Pacman too!

I wish someone could develop an offline Google Reader for the iPhone. Then I could use my time on the Underground slightly more profitably. Or TfL could do something about mobile reception on the tube.
