A BOMBED Mumbai and " RADIO ACTIVE " India ! Welcome to the land of paradoxes.....that make us stronger with ever passing day.

Appreciate that you had such wonderful things to say about the spirit of the common man in the city....and its this same common man, for whom RADIO is a BUDDY.

I have been, for over 9 years in radio ( more recently in new media - including visual radio which you mentioned).....giving into the THE listener's daily whims and fancies with liberal does of interactivity and entertainment to get me that rivetted NUMBER 1 status on the rating chart, everyday, every hour........

BUT it was that one day of the blasts when all the channels singularly fought for one cause. HLPING THE CITY.....and far away from worrying about who was leading......or even worse, who was training. Incredible . Thats the only word.

Did try and reach you when you were in India ( called / emailed both) but no luck to connect.....

Hope you had good trip.

BTW...if you think we have met, we havent. I flew in from Bangalore for your talk ( and glad about that )and follow your writings in the new media space regularly.

Thats all !

Will be glad to get a reply back from you ...someday when you get a free minute.

Cheers
Ashutosh

I fear for radio in India. The industry has paid incredible amounts of money for FM licences (similar in relative value for that paid for 3G spectrum in Europe). The government is still exercising considerable control, to allow its station a continuing monopoly on some of the things radio is really valued for. People are enthusistic now, but will they still be in 5 years, when revenue is hard to come by, and they're all gravitating the same music base with little differentiation? I remember the heady days of deregulation in Austria in 1998, and now it's a horrible place to try and be a successful private radio operator. I fear India might have a nasty bump down on its upward trajectory.
