Radio for smaller communities

The latest RAJAR figures are interesting, and doubtless there are lots of blog posts getting excited about Heart or Capital.

I’m interested about the smaller stations – because they are the most popular radio stations in the UK; at least, if you look at the amount of listening in their area.

Manx Radio (in the Isle of Man) is now the UK’s most popular radio station – in terms of total listeners. Island FM (in Guernsey) is the UK’s most popular radio station – in terms of total listening share. Radio has a fantastic place in these types of communities – probably helped by the lack of alternative relevant media.

And lest we think this only goes for locally-programmed radio stations, the list also shows another local radio station with a high amount of listeners in its own area – which might surprise

Island radios (Isle of Man, Guerney) have highest listener share (cf. @jamescridland ’s http://bit.ly/3NLvHq). think about that!

Except neither Isle of Man or Guernsey are in the UK.
