Not tried it myself, but there is a tool for recommending which BBC Radio shows you should listen to, based on your Last.fm profile - http://music-recommendations.metade.org/

The other thing that would be nice would be a submission interface for smaller stations, or an API so people could compare their own data to it.

There's code along these lines behind the Music Section of the SRA website (although granted it's nowhere near finished) which is aimed at recommending a student station to visitors based on their tastes, or possibly even individual shows (although the scheduling stuff isn't that clever yet).

Mmmmm Data....

Neat site that one - my two most listened to stations are Smooth (East Midlands) and XFM - comparing the London version of those shows that:

XFM London played 653 unique tracks
Smooth Radio London played 2,137 unique tracks
XFM London and Smooth Radio London have 4% of their playlist which is the same

I thought the Smooth Radio played more music than XFM, but just quite how many more tracks is rather surprising!

And the artist recommendations suggest that Absoulte Xtreme (which my WiFi radio insists on calling Virgin Xtreme even though I wiped the preset) is worth giving another shot (shame it's not on DAB to make that possible more of the time).

The BBC 6 Music / XFM comparison http://www.comparemyradio.com/compare/BBC_6_Music/XFM_London shows how little music XFM actually play - nearly all of XFM's music is played by 6Music, but only 19% of the combined tracks shared are played by both!

Thanks James...

All your points about improvements are valid... we're working towards a version 1.1 of Compare My Radio that should include these exact things. At the moment the site is great for getting an aggregate view of the data and in the future we're looking to deliver a even better personalised experience for users.
