Calling all ex-Pennine/Pulse types

I was once on Pennine FM, for about a month, under my real name. During this time, I presented the Saturday late show. I presented alongside a man called Rol Hirst, and to his consternation I once ‘dumped’ a listener on the telephone when, on asking him why he sounded a bit croaky, he replied “F**k off”. It turns out he actually said “I’ve got a cough”. Oh well, nobody was listening anyway, I told myself.
The boss sacked me without – he later admitted – listening to my show. But he gave me a new job, once he’d rebranded the station, as the drivetime presenter. Look, that’s me on the bottom-right, with my new DJ name.
Pennine Radio / Pennine FM / The Pulse / Classic Gold was where I learnt radio, interviewed lots of big stars like Bad Boys Inc, Gary Numan, and that bloke from East 17, and had the time of my life, working for a great boss and a wonderful team.
Anyway: it’s Pennine Radio’s 35th anniversary shortly; and some of the team are putting together a bit of a party later on in the year. I’m really looking forward to going and seeing lots of old friends; and if you’ve ever worked in the studios in Forster Square, they’d love to hear from you too. They’re on Twitter at @penninepulse235. Do get in touch – it’s Mel running that Twitter account. Yes! Mel! (grin)
Photo stolen quite without any permission from Michael Wincott, but then, I once gave him a television, so I reckon it’s a fair swap
