A trawl around the web, May 24th to May 25th

Over this Bank Holiday weekend, I’ve been jumping on the bike for the first time this year (and cycling round places like Smithfield, above); listening to an awful lot of music; and also taking the time to catch up on reading with Google Reader. Here’s a few interesting things to catch up on.
Audioboo, etc
AudioBoo is new talk of the net [guardian.co.uk]
I'm quoted in this piece from Matthew Wheeler that was out today in The Guardian. Nice that ITV will be using it; and doubly nice that Matthew's linked to my blog from this piece.
Audio Boo [Joe's Technology blog]
I appear to be responsible for this man discovering AudioBoo. This is probably good. I hope.
Radio in the UK
Why Sun Talk can’t survive [MediaBizTech]
Quite a few reasons why Sun Talk (or SunTalk) won't survive in its current form. Lack of chapters is certainly one of them, I'd agree. So I went to check how it was doing on Google Trends so far… oh dear.
First Love Radio (aka South London Radio) R.I.P. [Grant Goddard]
Grant's fascinating history of two local radio stations which closed earlier this year. His reasons why, while too eager to "blame the regulator", are interesting reading.
Visualised Radio at last.fm [Radio 2020]
George notes the new last.fm player, which neatly shows a moving slideshow of user-generated content while you listen. It's nice, though I doubt how many people will sit there and watch it at this size – visualised radio on a PC needs to remember that the user is probably doing other things a well. Make your radio player as small as you can, that's what I think.
Robin Lustig on the changes in radio [The Guardian]
"When The World Tonight used to share an office with Newsnight, and when we were feeling just a little bit mischievous, we liked to wind them up by saying that what we were doing in radio was producing television for grown-ups. I still think it's quite a good description of what we do." – brilliant!
Radio overseas
Radio Télé Uele (RTU) in Bondo [Flickr]
Lest you think that the radio station you work in is under-invested and falling apart, you should try working here. Splendid photograph, taken in the Congo.
"Don’t Listen" [Hear 2.0]
Mark reports on an interesting ad campaign – and says that the most important thing for radio stations to concentrate on is trial, not just recall. Exactly why I spent many hours getting Virgin Radio on as many devices, in as many places, as possible. (And with over 50% of listening to the national Absolute Radio service on digital platforms, I'd like to think I succeeded).
Amusing writing
Bitterwallet – Thank you for your custom
Purports to be "consumer hacks, tips and news", but is, in fact, an excuse for a few people to post mostly funny rants about things they've spotted on the web. One of its editors nearly poisoned me with sausages once. And still owes me a fiver.
This is a tidied and edited list of my Delicious links from May 24th to May 25th. You can subscribe to this list, live, via rss. Yes, I’ve gone back to Delicious these days.
