Iain Lee - genius

Posted on Sunday, January 6th, 2008 at 5:45pm. #

If you ever needed proof that engaging your audience on the internet is a splendid thing, then you need to look at Iain Lee.

Getting ready for his first programme on Virgin Radio tonight, so far he’s posted a number of YouTube videos (there’s one above, starring Martin the security guard), he’s written a letter to the listeners, and he’s heavily into MySpace (shudder).

By now, hopefully any fan of Iain is aware that he’s on Virgin Radio. He’s done a great job. And, interestingly, he’s done this all himself. The letter on Virgin’s site isn’t ghost-written, and Iain’s been doing a lot of podcasts by himself in the past as well as YouTube stuff. (The only confusion is why Shindiggery, his own podcast, hasn’t had a Virgin Radio trail inserted into it, which I’d have done).

Anyway, this is just a long and rather tedious posting to both extol the virtues of communicating directly with your listeners (through the official website is always a good idea too). I’ll be listening: and will look forward to the podcast, asssuming my old colleagues can be arsed to do one.

Pradeeeeep.

How funny, caught on video as Ian Lee is booted out of the building is Kevin McCabe from EMI who looks after all the bands. He’s the guy with the long jacket and brief case who enters the building….
