From Karl's photo it would look as though the producer is copying the information from a Radio Times just next to his screen! That's can't be right can it? At least cut and paste from the Radio 3 website...

just one week ago I had the pleasure to attend an EBU meeting at BBC radio 3 in London, and visited the on-air studio. There was a producer sitting next to the engineer, he types in the text information for Freeview (it seems only part of this text also goes into DAB) in a JAVA application, from there it can be scheduled to display at the right time. You can see a photo of this setup here:

We are working at ORF Radio in Vienna, Austria on this very topic quite intense, any more thoughts and observations are most welcome.

The BBC can do this in live programmes through a little application called LiveText. Basically, somebody in the studio (or anywhere for that matter) types in the copy and hits 'go' when the relevant item starts. It goes on DAB and Freeview (unless you're the World Service when it goes on DAB and DRM) but not Sky.

Presumably the Freeview screen is an MHEG application? Wonder if it also appeared on the Sky EPG (personally I usually turn off the TV when I'm listening to the radio via DSAT.)

Of course, there's potential for there to be a much better EPG on Freesat - and perhaps this might finally force Sky to introduce the long-awaited (well, by me anyway) radio Now and Next and maybe even a 12-hour schedule as for all TV channels.
