Why it pays to have a frequent-shoppers loyalty card

Interesting letter from Boots

My wife got a letter today from Boots, who noted that her Advantage Card records showed that she had bought a particular hot water bottle that is being recalled.

I’ve never thought of these loyalty cards as being ’scary’ (though I appreciate other people do). I’ve been impressed when Tesco’s offers to us appear to offer us money off stuff that we only buy occasionally, in an effort to get us to buy more regularly, for example - or different brands than the brands we normally buy.

But this is the first time, I think, that I’ve ever seen a product recall being done via a loyalty card. Which, of course, is the perfect way to do it.

Well done, Boots.
